Scary books

What's the scariest book you've ever read?

I read THE SHINING by Steven King on a flight to Europe (that's another story!) I was scared even inside this airplane (watch out for those stewardesses!) and I didn't sleep at all, even though it was a flight through the middle of the night.

BookBreak! ... BHS' Own Reading Rants and Raves

LUNA is a treat! Liam is not your typical teenaged boy. His sister is trying to help him find himself but she has issues of her own. She has a new lab partner who is interested in a different kind of chemistry! Enjoy this short book, now available at the BHS LMC.

Renaissance Fair, Anyone?

'Lest you think your librarian has stopped reading (gasp!), I've been plowing through LEGACY: a biography of Queen Elizabeth I. Her influence was huge and so is this book. Don't bother with Sonny's War

There are lots of good books out about The Vietnam War and the 60s... SONNY'S WAR isn't one of them. Corin's brother, Sonny, goes off to fight the good fight and we're left with a boring view of life on the homefront. Read IN COUNTRY by Mason instead.

The OC; Beverly Hills 90210; Fresh Prince...NOT!

HIGHWIRE MOON by Susan Straight is a look at Southern California that will refocus your eyes from all that TV la-la land stuff. Elvia is a half-Mexican (Indian not Spanish) and half-American teen who runs away in search of her birth mother, Serafina. Serafina, in the meantime, is trying to get back to the USA (after the Immigration Services so rudely deported her years ago) to find Elvia. Do they ever meet? It's not what you think and, on the way, you'll get a first-hand look at migrant workers, runaway teens, and life on the edge in the darker side of CA.
